Eeeeek! Hello there everyone! Sorry I’m a smidge late to the party this week – I’ve taken on a little extra work recently, and unfortunately my blogging time got squeezed out! But I still have a brand new Beastie to share with you today, so how about we kick back on this lazy Sunday morning, and hang out with him and all his accessories?
(As I mentioned way back last week, he has SO MANY accessories!)
Hey there, Mr Beastie!

“Mr Beastie” seems very formal though, doesn’t it? Maybe we should get on first name terms. This Beastie started life as a request from one of my lovely knitting students, who wanted to Beastify her husband Bruce as a birthday gift. So I’m guessing that makes this fellow Beastie Bruce!
Human Bruce is an active kind of guy, and every morning he dons his yellow hi-viz vest before he cycles to work. Great, let’s give Beastie Bruce one of those!
As you can see, the felt hi-viz has a stripe of reflective ribbon… And is removable!
Underneath, there’s a Beastified version of Human Bruce’s favourite grey wool coat, complete with buttons.
And, in Russian-doll-like fashion, that’s removable too!

What’s he got on under there, then?
Aha! It’s a blue running top! I chose a colour that matches the shirt Human Bruce got for taking part in the Dublin Marathon… See, I told you he was sporty! His stripey beanie hat is also a marathon souvenir.

At this point, I should probably mention that Human Bruce isn’t originally from round these parts. He and his wife Sue have been living in Dublin for the last few years, having moved over from Australia for work commitments. Apparently, he’s become quite interested in the Irish sport of hurling during his time here… So, surprise surprise, Beastie Bruce wants a slice of that action too!

And thanks to his magnetic paws, he can pick up and set down his hurley at will!
Good work, Beastie Bruce! It gives me great pleasure to present you with this special Beastie-sized medal.

Fortunately, he seems to be a gracious winner. Let’s reward him further with… Some more accessories! I reckon he needs something to go in that nice blue backpack.
How about a tasty croissant to snack on? It’s Human Bruce’s favourite way to start the day! This one is made of felted wool – the perfect low-fat, high-fibre treat for a Beastie on the go.

And, because reading “The Irish Times” has become a cherished part of Human Bruce’s Dublin routine…
I think he’s finally good to go!
Oh, and although he’s been wearing them throughout all the pictures in this post, let’s not forget those glasses! Some careful work with needle and pliers meant that I could capture the thin metal frames of Human Bruce’s specs.
Phew! It’s only when I write a post like this that I realise how much goes into each and every Beastification. Still, this was such a fun project. Then seeing Human Bruce sharing pictures of his new monster buddy was the icing on the cake!
By the way, if you have someone in your life who you think merits a full Beastification, all you have to do is drop me a line and we’ll get the process under way!
Alrighty, enjoy the rest of your weekend… Are you being active like Bruce Beastie, or taking it easy? Let us know in the comments! I’ll be back in a week and a bit, hopefully with a slightly clearer schedule… See you then!
This Beastie was requested as a very special birthday gift and she needed to match her new buddy’s look as closely as possible. So, that boiled down to a pairing of flashes of bright colour with a few nods to gothic/heavy metal style. No problemo!
… And is removable, too. However, after several instances of
And now that the hoodie hood is down, you will have noticed that this Beastie is rocking some rather spiffy piercings and a cute bob and fringe!
I made sure to keep the individual strands of hair quite fine, though – just to make sure her hair wasn’t too big to fit inside her hoodie hood.
Very nice!
As you can see, it tucks in neatly underneath the hoodie hood, so she can bring it with her come rain or shine!
Beastification complete… Rock on!
Many thanks to Caspar for this awesome Beastie project… And to all of you for dropping in to visit! Paddy and Plunkett will be back next Tuesday, so be sure to join us then.
… But following a Grand Slam victory for Wales in the Six Nations rugby tournament earlier this year, she thought a special celebratory addition to their wardrobe was in order. So I found a willing Beastie model to help me get the sizing right, and TA-DAAAAAAH!
One Beastified Wales Rugby jersey!
… And added an appliquéd number 8 on the back!
The significance of the number 8 is still a mystery to us here at Beastie Towers, but it’s clearly got some sort of special meaning to Jon Beastie and his human counterpart. I’m keeping an eye on
Meet Julia Beastie! This particular monster lady was made as a very special “Yay, you finished your MA thesis” gift… And as you can see, she’s not travelling alone. She’s being kept company by her feline felt friend, Paddy the cat!
Now, Beasties with pet cats aren’t new – you may remember that I made a few for the
However, this was the first time I had attempted to copy a particular cat’s markings. Since this Beastie’s human counterpart is the proud owner of a devilishly handsome polydactyl cat, it only seemed right that Felt Paddy paid proper tribute to Real Paddy.
… And the combination of delicate green skin with rich dusky rose stripes!
Aaah, you can’t beat those classics! Although I adjusted this Anne Bront
And how about a ticket to a show, to complete the set?
“Carousel” is one of Human Julia’s favourites, so it’s fairly safe to assume that her new Beastie companion will enjoy it too. Just one thing, though…
“… And pop it in my backpack for me?”
As you can see, the straps clip into place at the base of the bag. That means they can simply be slipped around a Beastie arm and attached!
Perfect!
Here’s wishing them all kinds of monster adventures together!
It’s been a while since I made a Rugby Beastie – you can check out past members of Team Beastie
So, in knitting terms, this guy is rocking an extra row on his torso, and a couple of extra rows to lengthen his legs!

The colour is inspired by his human counterpart, and the yarn I used was a luxurious blend of alpaca and wool. You’ll have to take my word for it, but it’s unbelievably soft.
And hopefully he worked a little monster magic for his teammates, too!
This happy pair were made as a Christmas gift for two real-life human sisters, Emily and Holly.
Human Holly is super into horses, so a Beastie with an esquestrienne flavour fitted the bill perfectly. I started at the top, with a traditional black peaked riding hat…
…And her soft alpaca hair is pulled neatly in underneath in a very stylish bun.
Then her outfit is completed with a natty little hand-sewn tweed jacket… Which really unbuttons!
And underneath, she’s got a crisp white shirt and ribbon tie.
Perfect! And then for little sister…
…A sweet little ribbon-tie dress, with a cute Matryoshka doll print! Ideal for little hands to play with.
I also love her hairstyle!
These are the same alpaca tresses that Emily Beastie has (they are sisters, after all!) but they look completely different cut short in a halo of soft curls.
Looking good!
Spencer Beastie was requested by our good buddy Melissa at
Not only can he now hold things, he can also “hang out” on metal surfaces in the prison bus!
… Glasses…
… Favourite hat…
… And trademark bandana handkerchief!
I think we all know what that means… Let’s see what’s inside!
Aha! Everything a Beastie needs to tackle a serious refit project – a Beastie-sized torch, pocket knife and hammer!
Finally, for those of you who are suckers for the teeniest of tiny details, the torch contains a glass bead “bulb”…
… And the blade of the pocket knife really folds out!
Well, I think you’re ready to help out in the workshop, Spencer Beastie! Better get packed up and make the journey Stateside…
And the best bit is, you can see him settling in to his new home! Melissa very kindly featured Spencer Beastie in the latest episode of her podcast series… Check it out here!
Ooooh, nice dress… Care to give us a twirl?
Lovely!
Uh-oh! He’s missing his mum… Time to hand him back!
You might just be able to see that she has special velcro paws, so that she can hug him extra tight.
And with Baby Beastie peacefully napping in the nursery, Dad Beastie just manages to nab a quick cuddle as Mama Beastie dashes out to the hospital!
Let’s chat to him next. Hey, Cool Dad Beastie!
Looks like he’s about to tuck into some lunch! A slice of pepperoni pizza…
… Topped with lashings of every Beastie’s favourite spicy sauce – Tabeastco!
Let’s hope he doesn’t accidentally get any on that nice checked shirt! Very stylish.
Now, how about one more family portrait before we go?
Beautiful!
Aaaaand finally – the wonderful Georgian houses of Dublin’s Merrion Square are throwing open their doors for Christmas on the Square this coming Saturday, and the Beasties will be there! Find us in the Irish Architectural Archive at no.45 from 10am-5pm. Full details are
