Happy Tuesday, everyone! And today I have a real monster treat for you all… The first new Beastie of 2019! Here he is – a brand new Rugby Beastie!
It’s been a while since I made a Rugby Beastie – you can check out past members of Team Beastie here and here – but they’re always a fun challenge.
For starters, I usually make them a little taller than regular Beasties. Human rugby players often stand a few inches above the rest of us, so it only seems right!
So, in knitting terms, this guy is rocking an extra row on his torso, and a couple of extra rows to lengthen his legs!
And now, he needs some kit! This Rugby Beastie was requested by a lovely lady who met me at one of my markets before Christmas. She wanted a gift for her son… A lucky monster mascot to cheer him on from the sidelines at a very important match that would be taking place at the end of January.
So, it made sense to dress him in the team’s colours. That’s a deep blue rugby shirt with white collar and trim, completed with an appliquΓ©d and embroidered star motif.
He’ll also need a ball, or we won’t be able to play! As with many previous Rugby Beasties (and even rugby supporter Beasties) he’s carrying a Beastified version of the official Ireland rugby ball.
And finally… Check out that hair!
The colour is inspired by his human counterpart, and the yarn I used was a luxurious blend of alpaca and wool. You’ll have to take my word for it, but it’s unbelievably soft.
Now, I reckon you’re ready to hit the pitch!
And hopefully he worked a little monster magic for his teammates, too!
Join us again next Tuesday, when Paddy and Plunkett are off to Belfast to check out one of the city’s most popular attractions. See you then… And have a monster week in the meantime!
What a cute Rugbybeast!!
Thanks Lu! He is a handsome fellow, isn’t he? π
Oh yes, by God π€
Oh yeah π€‘
Love the hair! Amazing what an extra row of stitches can do — he does have that rugger stature
Thanks, Mariss! And yes, even a couple of extra rows is enough to have this guy towering over his fellow Beasties! Thanks for swinging by π
Hmmm….is it possible to add a couple rows to a human’s legs and torso? I wouldn’t mind being a little taller :)) And, is it wrong that I always get a little crush on the Rugby Beasties? Probably a sign I need to get out more.
Not surprising – they are handsome little devils π And if you’re the first human willing to have a knitoplasty height augmentation, step into my lab! I’ll just give you half an hour to sign all these disclaimers and responsibility waivers first. π
Only half an hour? I can’t even get through the forms for a visit to my real doctor that quickly! Do I get to pick out the color of yarn for this knitoplasty or is there an industry standard I have to stick to?
I’ll do my best to meet your colour specifications, but please note that an exact skin colour match cannot be guaranteed at this time π€£
As ever, pure genius! JanBeastie and JonBeastie love him (they say “Hi!” by the way)… π
Why thank you! It’s so nice to hear that Jon and Jan Beastie are keeping well, too… And behaving themselves, I hope π Cheers for popping in!
This Beastie is amazingly exceptionally awesome!!!
Awwww, thank you Tierney! Seems like he’s definitely helped kick off 2019’s Beastie lineup in style! π
Cute cute cute! There was a little too much rugby action at the pub this past weekend, I have to say… if only all the players looked like this Beastie, it would be much more watchable!
Hahaha! Beastie Six Nations… I should make it so! π
