Paddy and Plunkett’s Summer Staycation

The boys are back in town… Or are they? Like the rest of us, they’ve been locked in for the last few months, and now they’re eager to get away. Staycation or long-haul round-the-world trip, they don’t mind!

Fortunately, it looks like an opportunity to travel has just presented itself.
Staycation Ahoy! H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“What’s going on here, Paddy?”

“I’m not sure, Plunkett…”
Travel Beastie-Style - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“… But hop in here and we’ll soon find out!”

Much, much later…

Indeed you have, Beasties. Let the staycation begin!
Let the Staycation Begin! H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“We’re here! Um, where is here?”

Luckily, Plunkett has been watching a few of his favourite crime dramas during lockdown, and his deductive powers are razor-sharp. He knows they haven’t left the island of Ireland, because they drove the whole way. Then when he sees how green everything is, and how much water there is around…
Where are We? H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“We’re in the west. Sligo, I think!”

Wow, he’s right! Although I suspect that last part might have been a lucky guess. Sligo is one of Ireland’s smaller counties, but it’s incredibly beautiful. Get a good lungful of that lovely fresh air too, boys!
Sligo Staycation - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Aaaaaaah!”

And there really is water everywhere here! Look, Plunkett’s just found some more.
Sligo Staycation - Paddy and Plunkett - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesSo many waterfalls! You probably won’t be surprised to learn that this town, Ballysadare, takes its name from these beautiful rushing rivers. It’s called “Baile Easa Dara” in Irish, which means “town of the waterfall of the oak”. Clearly Paddy has gone in search of the oak!

Plunkett catches up with him a short while later, in a lovely mossy woodland. One advantage of our climate here is that Ireland is full of these cool, moss-filled hollows.

“Paddy! Paddy! Take my picture with the moss!”
Plunkett's Moss Photo - Sligo Staycation - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Fine. But we’re definitely going to the beach tomorrow!”

Join us next Tuesday to see if Paddy gets to take his trip to the seaside after all. And if you need a little extra dose of monster fun, be sure to check out what tierneycreates Beastie has been up to on the other side of the Atlantic. A certain handsome Beastie has landed in his new home, and there’s good news to share!

See you next time!

Flashback Friday – Beasties on Holiday!

Hey there everyone! Summer has returned to Dublin – I think temperatures climbed to their highest heights of the year so far yesterday! And that’s got me in a holiday sort of mood… So I thought I might use this week’s Flashback Friday to revisit some of my favourite “Beasties on tour” moments. Hopefully it will tide us over until we can all travel again!

Let’s start with Explorer Beastie’s trip to Germany in 2018… A rare example of a Beastie holiday where I was allowed to tag along.
View from the Train - CrawCrafts Beasties, Beastie HQAnd thanks to the themed gardens in Düsseldorf’s Nordpark, you might have even thought we were briefly in Japan! Explorer Beastie does enjoy a bit of zen serenity now and again.

Paddy and Plunkett are also fond of an away trip. Here’s one of my favourite pictures of them, lurking in the tulips around Arundel Castle in Kent.

Beasties at Pescasseroli Park Zoo - A de Girolamo/CrawCrafts BeastiesAnd yes, that is a real live BEAR in the background!
A Poorly Bear at the Park Zoo, Pescasseroli - A de Girolamo/CrawCrafts BeastiesAnd speaking of dangerous exploits… One of my favourite Beastie holiday snaps of all time comes courtesy of Tammie Painter, who encouraged her Beastie Finn McSpool to try his paw at scuba diving whilst on holiday in Hawaii!

He wasn’t the only one having fun in the sun in Hawaii, either. Grim Reaper Beastie went there too! Doesn’t he look right at home among all that lava?
A Fitting Backdrop for a Grim Reaper Beastie! N Depping/CrawCrafts BeastiesThen again, holidays don’t have to be all non-stop action and dramatic scenery. They can also give you the opportunity to take a moment to pursue a favourite hobby…

Time for a Rest! CrawCrafts BeastiesAre you dreaming of getting away on holiday when things return to normal? Or are you planning a staycation in your favourite local hideaway? Be sure to tell us all about it in the comments!

We’ll be back on Tuesday with more monster mischief… Enjoy the weekend and we’ll see you all then!

Ready to harvest and eat! H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties

Paddy and Plunkett – Harvest Time!

Hey there everyone! Now, if the title of this post has you thinking that it’s really too early to harvest anything, please read on… You might be surprised!

After planting courgette seeds a few weeks ago, Paddy and Plunkett are back out in the garden… And, unsurprisingly, they’re on the lookout for some lunch.
“Look, Plunkett! It’s that courgette plant we potted up a while back… And it’s flowering!”
Paddy, Plunkett and the Courgette Plant - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“I’m going in for a closer look – give me a leg up, will you?”
“Alright… Yeowch!”
Inspecting the Courgette Harvest - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesPoor Plunkett! He didn’t think “leg up” meant “I’m going to stand on your head”.

Paddy’s impressed with what he sees, though…
Courgette Flower - Harvest Time - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Lovely! Hey, Plunkett – we could fry these up in batter like they do in fancy restaurants!”

But then, Paddy spots a baby courgette growing behind the flower… Can you see it?
Not ready to harvest yet - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Hmmm, better leave that for a bit. But I’m STARVING now!”

Just then…
“Paddy! You might want to come back down here!”
Plunkett’s made a tasty discovery.
Ready to harvest and eat! H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Oh, that’s a beauty! Stand back, Plunkett – I’ll take it from here.”
Paddy and the Courgette - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“HEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAVE!”

And after only a bit of persuasion, the courgette breaks free!
Beastie Courgette Harvest - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Nice one – a successful first harvest, Plunkett! Now, let’s get it to the kitchen.”
Well, it’s lucky there are two of them.
Bringing home the courgette - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Y’okay back there, Plunkett?”
“Uuuuurrrrhhhhh! Is it much further?”

Oh dear. Seems this has been a more energetic outing than Plunkett was expecting. Hopefully he’ll feel better after he’s had something to eat!

So, what’s growing in your gardens (or on your windowsill) these days? I’ve already been enjoying fresh rocket, radishes and nasturtium leaves so far this summer. And after a couple of lazy years, my strawberry plants are finally bearing fruit! All I need now is a little bit of sunshine to ripen those green berries up. Yum!

That’s all for now, but we’ll be back later in the week for another Flashback Friday… See you then!

Happy New Home, June Beastie!

Hey there everybody! Today we’re catching up with June Beastie again as she continues her journey to her new home. It’s been quite the adventure, starting way back here! And, in case you missed it, there was a more recent update last week… Which attracted a few interested non-human readers.

“Hey Plunkett, what are you… Oh, look! It’s that Beastie who showed up here a few months back! What’s she been up to?”
Keeping up with the BeastieBlog - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Exploring some interesting places, by the look of it!”
P&P catching up with June Beastie - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Wow! You’re right, we should go and visit her… I wonder where she is now?”

Well, funny you should ask that, Paddy. Because here she is!
June Beastie reaches her new home - R Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“This place looks nice. I wonder if anyone’s in?”

“Hellllllooooooo?”
Exploring the New Home - R Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Oh, look! Is that… The kitchen?”
Kitchen at her new home - R Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Yes! I think I’m going to like it here.”
Beasties in the kitchen - R Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesNow, I know that June Beastie’s ever-present rolling pin has raised a few eyebrows throughout her travels. Did she have trouble getting it through airport security? And why would she need it on a visit to a National Park?

Given that it has never once left her paw, I’m sure you’ll all appreciate her glee when she spotted this…
June Beastie and the Rolling Pins - R Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesSo… Many… Rolling… Pins! And look at all those recipe books, too.

June Beastie’s mind is made up.

“That’s it, I’m staying here! And to say thank you to my new human friends…”
June Beastie raids the fridge - R Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“…I’ll whisk them up a tasty snack!”

Yum! I wouldn’t mind exploring that well-stocked refrigerator myself!

And after a delicious meal, there was only one more thing June Beastie needed to check out.
“Look! A blue apron, just like mine! And this pocket is the perfect place for a travel-weary Beastie to settle down and…”
June Beastie Settles into her New Home - R Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“…Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…”

Happy new home, June Beastie! Hopefully she’s still helping her human family to cook up a storm in that lovely kitchen.

As for the rest of us at Beastie Towers, we’ll be back on Friday with another round of unusual Beastie accessories… So be sure to join us then!

Flashback Friday – Beasties by the Seaside

Hello Beastie friends! Is it really Friday again already? And what’s with all this talk about the seaside?

Well, this week for Flashback Friday I wanted to revisit a little lady monster from back in 2016 – hey there, Mermaid Beastie!
Mermaid Beastie Makes her Escape - CrawCrafts BeastiesBut her fishy tail…
Mermaid Beastie's Tail, by CrawCrafts Beasties… And aquatic-themed accessories…
An Unconventional Use for Starfish - CrawCrafts Beasties… Made me realise that it’s a veeeery long time since I was last at the seaside. So, as well as a timely reminder that Beasties are found under the sea as well as on land, I thought I’d take a trip to the coast through some of my old photos.

Look, here’s Explorer Beastie enjoying the sun and sand in Lanzarote, from this adventure back in 2014!

Paddy and Plunkett enjoy the odd day at the beach too. Here they are at my favourite childhood haunt… Crawfordsburn Beach in County Down, Northern Ireland. I spent a lot of time clambering over these very rocks looking for rock pools!
Paddy and Plunkett Take the Scenic Route - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesThat said, not all of their seaside visits have gone so smoothly. In this post from 2016, the two of them ended up in a bit of a pickle after someone let Paddy take the wheel…

And finally – one thing I’m really looking forward to when the travel restrictions are completely lifted here is getting back to Donegal. Spectacular scenery, great eating spots and, if you visit off-season like we do, miles of deserted beaches to enjoy! See for yourself!
Beastie Hide and Seek - CrawCrafts BeastiesHow about you lot? Are any of you still able to get to the beach, or are you longing to feel sand between your toes again? Let us know in the comments!

And we’ll be back on Tuesday with the last part of June Beastie’s travel diary… See you then!

Courgette Plant - Growing Veg - CrawCrafts Beasties

Paddy and Plunkett – Growing Wild!

Hey there everyone! After a bit of a wild weekend (weather-wise, of course. We’re still confined to quarters here at Beastie Towers) the sun has returned… And so have a pair of familiar woolly faces! It’s been a while since we’ve seen Paddy and Plunkett, hasn’t it? Let’s drop in and see what they’re up to.
Paddy and Plunkett get growing - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesAha! Looks like they’ve hopped on the gardening bandwagon and are getting into growing their own veggies.

Well, Plunkett is. Paddy has other ideas for what to do with the courgette seeds.
Paddy and the Courgette Seeds - CrawCrafts Beasties“Check it out, Plunkett! Sustainable jewellery!”
“Well… Yes. But they work better if you put them in a pot…”
Planting Seeds - Paddy and Plunkett - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“… Like this. Now, courgettes grow quickly – you might want to stand back a bit!”

Courgette Plant - Growing Veg - CrawCrafts Beasties
Wow, that really WAS quick! And it’s not done yet.
Paddy, Plunkett and the Growing courgette plant - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“I think we’re going to need a bigger pot, Plunkett!”
“Don’t worry, I saw one outside… But we’d better move this plant now before it gets too big to go through the front door!”

So, much huffing and puffing later…
Courgette Plant's New Home - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesThe plant looks much happier in its new home, doesn’t it? Plenty of space there to spread out its roots and keep on growing!

“Will we hop up for a closer look, Paddy?”
“Yeah! I want to see the courgettes – they must be nearly ready by now.”
Any courgettes growing yet? H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Ah, it’s a bit early for that yet, Paddy. But if you look veeeery closely…”
Courgette Floweres Growing - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“… You can see the first flowers starting to appear under the leaves. We won’t have long to wait!”

And once those courgettes get started, they’ll keep the boys fed for the entire summer. Hopefully they’ll find a way to send some of the crop Dublinwards, because they’re so tasty and versatile! I love to slice ’em thinly and cook them with red peppers and tomatoes for a pasta sauce, or fry them with lemon juice and garlic and serve the mixture on toast for a quick lunch. Yum!

All this talk of vegetables is making me hungry… So if you have any favourite courgette/zucchini recipes to share with me and the lads, please tell us all about them in the comments!

Aaaand we’ll be back on Friday with a Beastie pet retrospective (Pet-rospective?), so be sure to join us then!

Paddy, charmed by the Visitor - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties

A Mysterious Visitor…

Well hello there, Beastie friends! With Hallowe’en just around the corner, how about we take some time out from new Beasties and gather around for a tale of an unexpected and mysterious visitor?

Alright then, let’s begin…

It was a dark and stormy night… Oh no, wait a sec. Sorry, it was – LUNCHTIME!
Lunchtime at Beastie Towers - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesPaddy and Plunkett were just getting ready to tuck into a human-sized portion of their very favourite meal – honey mustard chicken.

“Made with Albanian honey, Paddy!” announced Plunkett proudly.
Plunkett's Albanian Honey - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Hang on… When were you in Albania? Did you go without me?!”

Fortunately, before Plunkett had to figure out his answer, there was a knock at the door.
“Are we expecting anyone?”
“I don’t think so. But here, I’ll go… Just don’t eat all my lunch!”
Plunkett goes to meet the visitor - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Sure thing… Shame to let it get cold, though. I’ll just have a bit. YUM!”

June Beastie at the Door - Visitor - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesIt was another Beastie! But Plunkett had never met her before.
“Hello there ma’am, how can I help you?”

He’s just so polite, isn’t he?

“Hi there! Oh my word, I’m such a big fan! I love reading about your travels. Now I need to get somewhere myself, and I figured you and Paddy were just the Beasties to ask! May I come in?”

Well, she didn’t need to ask twice.

“Paddy! We’ve got a visitor! She’s travelling to…”
“The US. North Carolina, to be precise!”
Paddy Meets the Visitor - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“And she’d like our guidan… WHERE’S MY LUNCH?!”
“Ummm… A human ate it!”
And then, rapidly changing the subject, “Plunkett, you can’t just go letting anyone into the house. How do you know she’s not a vampire? Or a Were-Beastie?”

Paddy was apparently keen to introduce a spookier note into what has turned out to be quite a pleasant story about Beasties helping each other out.

But luckily, their visitor knew exactly how to break the ice.
Paddy, charmed by the Visitor - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Oh, you must be the intrepid Paddy Beastie! I’ve read all about you – what a pleasure to meet you at last!”
“Intrepid? Why yes, I suppose I am! Hey, we were just about to have dessert… Care to join us?”

Well, it looks like her journey is off to a good start! Join us next time to see how the boys manage to help her on her way…

Hide and Seek in Powerscourt Gardens - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties

The Gardens of Powerscourt

Last week, when we left Paddy and Plunkett, they were halfway around the wonderful gardens at Powerscourt Estate, just south of Dublin in Co. Wicklow. They’ve seen a lot already…
Beasties at Powerscourt - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties…But there’s still plenty left for curious Beasties to explore! Let’s join them as they’re taking a breather in the peaceful environs of the arboretum. What great, deep conversations are they having on that elegant stone bench, I wonder?
Arboretum at Powerscourt Estate Gardens - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Reminds me a bit of the scenes on Endor from Return of the Jedi, this place.”
“No way, Plunkett! It’s the Forbidden Forest at Hogwarts, from the Harry Potter films!”

Uh-oh, this could get ugly. Quick, let’s distract them with games… Pine cone football, anyone?
Paddy and Plunkett play in the Gardens - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesOr how about a round of hide and seek? There must be millions of good hiding places in here!
Hide and Seek in Powerscourt Gardens - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Found you, Paddy! Now it’s my turn to hide.”

But, as usual, Paddy has a trick up his woolly sleeves.
“If I climb up this gate…”
Paddy at the Gate - Walled Gardens - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“…I’ll be able to see everything!”

The gates in the gardens at Powerscourt are something else – the one Paddy has chosen to scale here is the Venetian Gate, which has been a feature here since 1900. Its curling vine leaf design makes it the perfect way to enter the Herbaceous Border section of the gardens, and it’s positively gleaming since its restoration in 2016. Or how about the Bamberg Gate?
The Bamberg Gate, Powerescourt Estate Gardens - B Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesIt originally graced the entrance of Bamberg Cathedral in Germany, and is 240 years old! It also recently had a facelift, and even the attendant eagles on the pillars got a shiny new coat of gold paint.

Ah – while we’ve been admiring the gates, Paddy has uncovered Plunkett’s secret hiding place. Now they’re off to have a better look at the walled garden. Inspired by his recent gate-climbing exploits, Paddy is keen to convince Plunkett to enjoy the views from on high as well.
Climbing in the Walled Gardens - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Come on, Plunkett! Nearly there!”
Plunkett Scales the Topiary - Powerscourt Gardens - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“This had better be worth it… Oh, look at those statues!”
Statues in Powerscourt Gardens - B Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“And what’s that up on the hill?”

The boys have no choice but to investigate further… Although they make time to stop for lunch along the way.
A Snack for Paddy and Plunkett - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesAnd, at journey’s end, they find themselves in a very peculiar place.
Pet Cemetery at Powerscourt - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesIt’s the old family pet cemetery! Much less scary than the one in the Stephen King story, this one has memorials to faithful hounds and, if you look at the older headstone on the right, less conventional “pets” like cows get a look-in too.

But the boys can’t help wondering about the headstone they’re standing beside in the photo – what type of animal was Teddy? And what exactly brought about his mysterious, “accidental” demise? Join them in their wild speculations in the comments below – it is nearly Hallowe’en, after all!

And we’ll be back next week, with more monster shenanigans… See you then!

To The Manor Born – Beasties at Powerscourt!

Hello there Beastie friends! Well, after a quick new Beastie pit stop last week, we’re back on the road with Paddy and Plunkett. Despite the very obvious appeal of sticking around in that cosy cottage at the Logan Fish Pond, the adventurous pair have moved on… And apparently hopped a couple of rungs up the property ladder at the same time!
Plunkett at Powerscourt - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Greetings from Powerscourt House, everyone!”

Wow! Plunkett looks right at home here, doesn’t he? Has he officially moved in?

“No, just visiting… And enjoying the view!”
The Triton Lake at Powerscourt - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesPowerscourt House is in County Wicklow, and it’s only about half an hour south of Dublin. You wouldn’t think it, would you? The house is set in spectacular and varied gardens, and has made Lonely Planet’s list of the Top Ten Houses and Mansions in the world.

And of course, the house has a bit of a tale to tell! It’s been here since Medieval times, and some of the stonework of the 13th century castle still forms part of the structure.

That said, what you see today is mostly the result of an 18th century facelift, commissioned by the 1st Viscount Powerscourt in 1730. The main work was completed in 1741, but the house continued to grow and change over the years. They added a whole extra storey in 1787, and there were more major refurbishments towards the end of the 19th century.

Then, in the 20th century, a fresh round of renovations were completed, in preparation for the house to throw its doors open to the public for the first time. But disaster struck, just as work finished in 1974… A fire started on the top floor, and reduced the house to a roofless shell.

And so it remained for twenty years, until they rebuilt the roof in 1996. Finally, Powerscourt House got its moment in the sun in 1997, when President Mary Robinson officially opened it to the public. It seems to have gone from strength to strength since then – what do you think?
Powerscourt House and the Italian Garden - B Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesSo, while Plunkett has been enjoying the spectacle of the house, Triton Lake and the Italian Gardens, all set against the backdrop of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, where has Paddy gone? I thought he’d at least be trying to persuade one of those winged horses to take off and give him an aerial view of the grounds… Oh wait, there he is.

Paddy Turns Japanese - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties

Wait a sec, WHERE is he? It looks like he’s in Japan! I thought these two always travelled together!

Ah, not quite. He’s gone to explore the famous Powerscourt Japanese Garden, which is packed full of pagodas, azaleas, Japanese maples and Chinese fortune palms.

So let’s follow the winding path across the wooden bridge…
The Japanese Garden at Powerscourt - B Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties… And wait by the stone lantern for Plunkett to catch up!
Meeting in the Japanese Garden - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesThe Japanese Garden was created in 1908 by the 8th Viscount and Viscountess Powerscourt, making it one of the newer features of the grounds. But funnily enough, the boys stumbled on one of the oldest parts just around the corner – the grotto!
Plunkett in the Grotto at Powerescourt - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Paddy, look at all this wonderful moss!”

Yes, Plunkett is a big fan of moss – it’s cool, soft and really brings out his lovely green complexion. Fortunately for him, you can’t go far in Ireland without finding some! And better yet…
Plunkett Finds a Beastie-Sized Waterfall at Powerscourt - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Paddy! It’s a Beastie-sized waterfall! I could stay and watch it all day…”

“No way, Plunkett! There’s still so much to see. Come on!”

Of course, we’ll have to wait until next week to finish up the tour… Be sure to join us then!

Paddy's Pool - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties

Paddy, Plunkett and the Fish Pond

Wait a second… FISH POND? I thought the boys were off to Senegal!

Apparently not. They were all set to go, but as they headed down the coast, they were won over to the idea of a quiet day at the seaside. Then…
Mysterious Building by the Sea - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Hey, what’s that weird-looking building in among the rocks?”

Once again, the Beasties’ curious natures get the better of them and they have to at least go a little closer! Fortunately, the next thing they stumble upon is this sign, which tells them everything they need to know.
A Famous Fish Pond! H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesSold! As we know, the boys can’t resist an aquarium… And how often do you get to visit a famous fish pond?

Especially if it also looks like a castle…
Portlogan's Fish Pond - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesLet’s go inside!

Portlogan's Fish Pond - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesAha! Nice one, Plunkett… You’ve found the fish pond!

This pool started as a natural inlet from the sea, but it was enlarged by the local laird (landowner) between 1788-1800, with the help of a few French prisoners of war. Look, the date of completion is right here on the rocks!
Fish Pond Rocks - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesWhat did he want a pool for? Well, in the dark days before the fridge-freezer, a “fish larder” like this one meant that the family could keep sea fish handy and fresh all year round!

These days, it’s enjoying a new role as a marine life centre. Paddy can’t wait to make more fishy friends! But wait, what lies at the end of this rather spooky tunnel?
Tunnel at the Fish Pond - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Smugglers! It has to be smugglers!”
“Not quite, Paddy. It’s a nursery!”
Fish Nursery - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesIn here, fish are raised from teeny fry to adult size… Then they can move to the main pool.

Back outside, it’s time to get up close and personal with the grownups!
Fish Pond Friends - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesWow, they’re friendly! They must love the camera… Or could it be that they know when John the guide is coming around with his bucket of fish food?

After the fish have had their lunch, the boys explore a little further afield. Just around the corner, Paddy sees this.
Paddy's Dream Home - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesIs it the perfect Beastie-sized house? Not quite.

“Plunkett, look! It’s the old bathing hut!”
“What’s that?”
“It’s where people used to change before going in for a swim!”
Plunkett takes a moment to read the signpost.
“Um, Paddy? It says this was for women only, so maybe we should…”

Too late!
Paddy's Pool - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesLuckily, the days of segregated sea bathing here are long gone, and Paddy can enjoy a view of the shallow pool without outraging anyone’s delicate sensibilities. He almost looks like he’d like to go for a dip himself!
Paddy at the Port Logan Bathing Hut - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesLook! There’s even a fireplace inside, so getting dried off afterwards wouldn’t be a problem!
Port Logan Bathing Hut - H Crawford/CrawCrafts BeastiesPlunkett likes it too, despite his initial reservations.
Paddy and Plunkett Move In - H Crawford/CrawCrafts Beasties“Maybe we should stay here for the winter. I reckon they’d like a pair of resident Beasties!”

What’s this? Are the intrepid twosome considering a retirement from the adventuring life? You’ll have to wait a couple of weeks to find out, because there’s a new Beastie waiting in the wings to meet you next Tuesday!

See you then!
