Oh wow, I’ve actually been looking for an excuse to get on board with the Weekly Photo Challenge for months… So today’s task on Blogging 101 couldn’t have come at a better time! Here’s my first ever entry… My original Goth Beastie, hanging out in a local graveyard. Don’t have nightmares, now!

  1. When I saw your post notification in the mail I thought you also must be passing something “cute” as creepy as many others have been doing–but no!!! It’s CREEPY by God. 🙂

    What is meaning of Goth?

    What is meaning of Helen? I feel Helena was a goddess in Greek mythology–or maybe in Roman…

    1. Hey Anand, hope my little Goth Beastie didn’t scare you too much 😛
      As you can probably see, Cathy pipped me to the post with a nice succinct definition of goth style! Are there no goths in your part of the world? I thought they were an international phenomenon… except in Russia, where I hear dressing this way is actually illegal [citation needed!].
      “Helen” is indeed a Greek name, you’ve done your research! It means “light” 🙂 What does your name mean?

        No goths here –I had to google it out–because your help was no help at all 😛 😛
        Goth–one meaning is “Shabby/Vulgar.”
        Another: Some Germanic people who invaded Spain in the 3rd and 5th centuries. 🙂
        Urban dictionary: Those who have infatuation for dark and melancholic things–is it the one?

        In which case–your Beastie or other such art would be called Gothic–right?

        1. Sleeping in the daytime? Maybe you’re a Goth yourself… 😀
          I’d never heard “Goth” defined as shabby or vulgar before… A lot of Goth-style clothing is quite ornate and super-expensive! That might perhaps link back to those Germanic invaders, although I’d have to check that… Not my area of expertise! The Urban Dictionary definition comes closest, although I have known some cheerful Goths in my time. To confuse things further, “Gothic” is more likely to refer to a very distinctive style of European architecture… There was a stunning example of a Gothic cathedral in the French town where I lived as a student, check it out!

  3. Goth is a short form of Gothic. It was a popular style a few years (decades?) ago where (mostly) teenagers wore all black clothing, black eyeliner, black nail polish, black lipstick, black Doc Martin high lace up boots, many piercings with safety pins attached and often trench coats. Did I get it right Helen?

    1. Pretty much! Thanks, Cathy… did the photo display for you in the end, or are you still having trouble? I can’t vouch for the rest of the world, but there are still plenty of goths knocking around Dublin, and not all of them are teenagers 🙂
