Fellow craftspeople provide some of the richest inspiration for new Beastie projects… And tierneycreates Beastie was no exception! This little monster left Beastie Towers with a heap of accessories, an amazing coiffure and one very special canine companion.
She now lives in Colorado with Tierney, a talented quilter and long-term BeastieBlog reader. You can meet Tierney and learn more about her work here.
Now, let’s check out that Beastie… And we’ll start by taking a peek in her wardrobe. tierneycreates Beastie has a choice of two ensembles – first up, a hand-stitched felt t-shirt in a burgundy shade that goes beautifully with her delicate orange complexion. Then there’s a cosy handknit Aran sweater for cooler days. That’ll come in handy if she returns to her Irish homeland!
Give us a twirl there, tierneycreates Beastie!
Very nice. She’s also wearing a pair of Beastie-sized specs…
… Which are removable. (Match included for scale)
Next, let’s talk hair! I wanted to copy Human Tierney’s awesome locks as closely as possible… But none of my usual “hair” yarns quite fitted the bill. Luckily, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to indulge in a craft that I particularly enjoy – felting.
To get the texture right, and make sure each lock was a consistent size, every strand was needle-felted initially and then wet-felted. It was slow going, but fortunately we had a heatwave during the hairdressing process to help dry the locks out!
Also pictured is tierneycreates Beastie’s hand-knitted slouchy beanie hat. It’s inspired by one Human Tierney made for herself, but with a slight difference – strategically-placed earholes to help hold it in place on her head!
Then, to complete the top-to-toe ensemble – check out those natty little Beastie boots!
The yellow stitching is modeled on my own beloved DM boots, but I chose a nice sky blue for the Beastified version to add a pop of colour!
Next, I always like to include a bag with commissioned Beasties. That way they can carry some of their accessories around with them!
For this project, the bag was a great way to pay homage to Tierney’s love of quilting.
I selected some fabrics, cut teeny-tiny squares and pieced them together to create a miniature quilted panel. Then I stitched the panel onto the exterior of a felt bag made to my usual pattern. The bag is just the right size to hold the rest of tierneycreates Beastie’s accessories – a felt laptop and library card, each finished with hand-embroidered details.
That should be everything, right?
Not quite! We nearly forgot…
Mikelet, the miniature miniature schnauzer!
Chez Tierney, they’re schnauzer people… So it was important to include a mini-me for their pooch Mike! This little felted hound is the perfect companion for tierneycreates Beastie, and will keep her company on her adventures.
Speaking of which – walkies?
