About

Hello. My name is Helen, and I make monsters.

About Me and the Beasties - CrawCrafts BeastiesI’ve always had a fondness for weird and wonderful creatures… I suppose that’s to be expected when you grow up obsessively watching cartoons and the Muppets! And once I figured out that I could bring my imaginary friends to life with felt and yarn, I became hopelessly hooked on knitting and sewing as well!

Fast forward a few years…

…And I had moved on to more “grown up” knitted projects, like hats and scarves and socks. But one day I started to knit a pair of handwarmers that I didn’t have enough yarn to finish, and I improvised a pattern for a little monster to use up what remained of the ball.
Then I made more... About Me Beastie HQ CrawCrafts BeastiesNow they come in all shapes and sizes! Here, take a look at some of my favourite creations.

A life of their own…

Blog Posts - About Me, CrawCrafts BeastiesLater, when I turned the Beasties loose on the world, it immediately became obvious that they have quite a taste for adventure! Find out what they’ve been up to in the weekly BeastieBlog… Or why not adopt your own, and see where they take you?

Naturally monstrous…

I’m at my happiest when I’m at my work table, surrounded by piles of colourful felt and yarn – and with a few Beastie helpers to lend a paw when I need them, of course.
Beasties at Work - CrawCrafts BeastiesUsing high quality materials is super-important to me, so I hand-knit every little woolly monster using 100% natural fibre yarns. And since there’s been so much talk recently about the long-term effects of plastic on our planet, I’m now doing my best to use non-synthetic felts, fabrics and threads as much as possible in my work.

  1. Hello newest Spikey! I know, a bit corny, eh, but thatā€™s the term that has come to stick for those folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike šŸ™‚

Thank youā€¦ I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.

My aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ā€˜point n shootā€™ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations on life as I see it, thrown in for good measure.

My promise to you is not to be overbearing, just a couple of posts a day, maybe 3 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe youā€™ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

Thanks again and hope you have a great dayā€¦

      1. Thanks Helen. Your blog is a little mad – but we so need more of that. I struggle to keep up with followers I have to admit, but I’ve moved away from the dark side just now and decided to follow your blog (my first new one in months) – Spikey’s n monsters, a cool mix if ever there was one.

        1. Thanks, I’m flattered! It’s true that everyone needs a little monster-based fun in their lives, so I hope you enjoy following the Beasties’ adventures… all I need now is a natty name for my tribe of Beastie buddies. Thoughts, anyone?!
