Welcome to the New-Look BeastieBlog!

Hey everybody!

It might seem I’ve been a bit quiet for the last week or so, but it’s been all go behind the scenes! I’ve been tinkering away with photos, fonts, themes and buttons, and now I’m delighted to be unveiling a shiny new look for my site – care to join me for the guided tour?

First up, eagle-eyed Beastie peeps have already noticed that the blog has a new name. Welcome to Beastie HQ!
Homepage and Menu - Beastie HQ Updates, CrawCrafts BeastiesTo match this new, catchier title, I shortened the menu at the top, and made the header a collage of some of my favourite recent Beastie pics. Because I know many of you will be viewing this post in the WordPress Reader, I’ve made all the images in this post clickable so you can have a quick look at the real site as you go!

I picked out a new theme with a long-scrolling homepage, and tweaked it by customising the fonts and dropping in some spiffy green buttons.

Homepage Image Tiles - Beastie HQ Updates, CrawCrafts BeastiesHaving well and truly caught the image manipulation bug at this point, I decided to upgrade my Knitting Classes page next. Goodbye dull clickable square thumbnails, helloooooo elegant circles with text inside!
Knitting Classes - CrawCrafts Beasties, Beaste HQClicking on these beauties will bring you to a page that’s cleaner and brighter than before, with custom graphics to give you all the information you need. Underneath, there’s an inquiry form so people can get in touch with me directly!
Class Schedule 2018 - CrawCrafts Beasties Knitting ClassesSo far, so cosmetic… But with this taken care of, I could no longer hide from the dreaded rewrites! The new layout didn’t agree with the way I had had my Commissions page set up, so I broke it up into a short intro, with the option to click through to a step-by-step explanation of the process.
Process w frame - Beastie HQ Updates, CrawCrafts BeastiesOh, and I dropped in some more pictures and my own homemade icons while I was there!

Then the About page was treated to a similar overhaul – that plain ol’ typed page was broken down into blocks of text, separated with new pictures and buttons to help direct readers to other pages I think will interest them.
About Page - Beastie HQ Updates, CrawCrafts BeastiesAnd the Gallery section – which I promised to continue adding to after my previous round of updates last July – has finally got some new projects in it! It seems like my old “Hall of Fame” page wasn’t displaying properly, so this is now the handiest place to browse the Beastie archives. I’ll be adding more to it over the coming months – I promise!
Gallery - Past Prjects by CrawCrafts BeastiesOh, and most importantly – THE SHOP NOW WORKS AGAIN! As I mentioned last week, this was pretty much what prompted the whole rejig in the first place. To celebrate, I’ve cleared out some older products, and added a few new faces in time for the relaunch!
Shop Page - Beastie HQ Updates, CrawCrafts BeastiesI also delved into the inner workings, and managed to sort out some glitches that had been bothering me for a while. Result!

So, your tour is now complete! I’m going to fix myself a cup of tea and catch up with my much-neglected blog reading – but I’d love to hear what you think of the beautified BeastieBlog. Let us know in the comments… And we’ll be back on Friday with Paddy and Plunkett, who recently discovered something a bit weird in the attic!

See you all then!

  1. Well, the few clicks I’ve clicked all worked, so that’s worth smiling about. Now, lets see if I can actually post this comment… something that I haven’t been able to do on your old blog for several weeks.

    1. Hurrah! Reading your comment loud and clear πŸ˜€ Thanks for stopping by, Jan… And for doing a spot of testing while you were here. It’s good to know the system works!! Cheers 😁

  2. Your previous version looked great but your new format looks fantastic! Congratulations! Looking forward to finding out what P and P discovered in the attic πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Paula! Yes, I’m glad I did it… But hopefully I won’t have to fix it up again for a while! πŸ˜† Cheers for stopping by to have a look!

  4. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! Seems to be working just fine again today! Well, I thought your first makeover was great, but this is ever better! Beautiful homepage and things seem to be even cleaner and more user-friendly than before. Yes, I already admired your new name with my eagle-eyes, and love it showing up on the homepage. Sinead is beside herself to be featured! I really hope things continue to sail smoothly with the new layout. Well done!!

    1. Well that’s a relief! And yes, I hope I’ve chased out all the gremlins now, so it should be just Beasties in there! πŸ˜€ I’m glad you and Sinead approve, thanks to both of you for dropping in!

  5. Wow, that looks like it was a major headache! But you’ve mastered it … looks really good!

And I showed off your improved gallery to my husband who was really impressed! πŸ™‚

    1. Why thank you… Both of you! πŸ˜€ Day 1 of the refurb is always a bit of a nightmare, but once I’d picked my theme and decided how I was going to fit everything in, it wasn’t too bad this time around. Hopefully I won’t need to change it again for a looooong time now! Thanks for taking a look around!

  6. All I can say is Oooh lΓ  lΓ ! Your previous site was already great, but the new theme and all of the details and extras you’ve added do a wonderful job of presenting the Beasties as part of a bigger community of Beastie + craft lovers (I love that your knitting classes are on the site and are a part of it now, too!). And, the long-scrolling theme with all the different beautiful and vivid visuals really showcases the Beasties at their best. Magnificent work! πŸ™‚

    1. Oh wow, thanks Shirley! I’m glad you liked it… And thanks for taking the time to have a good ol’ look around, too! It’s great to hear that the new layout is showing off those formerly neglected parts of the site – pretty much everything was in there already, but it seems like people just weren’t finding it! πŸ˜† Cheers for dropping in!

      1. Yes – all the elements were already there. I love it when a new reconfiguration brings more of the good stuff to light! I’m now viewing your new site from a school PC (a huuuuge, high def-monitor I cannot otherwise afford!), and the colours and image-resolution are even more crisp and bold and wow! Those Beasties really are popping!!

        1. Hahaha! THAT’S good to know… I can’t afford one of those big spiffy monitors either! πŸ˜‚ Right, hopefully that’s the setup sorted now for ever and ever! πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks, Simon! I think I just about managed to shoehorn everything in there πŸ˜‚

        1. Yeah, I’d say my blog archives are massive at this point! Do you ever delete old posts?
