A Bewitching Beastie!

Hello there everybody! Today seems like a fitting day to share the last of my pre-Christmas commissions with you, since I’m looking out my window and watching the ground being slowly covered with a dusting of snow and hail! It seems we might have a bit of a way to go yet until Spring starts springing… But perhaps a little pinch of witchy magic might help?Witchy Beastie With Accessories - Custom Handmade Monsters by CrawCrafts Beasties
I love a project that gives me the opportunity to create a Beastie who’ll share the unique  style and interests of their new human friend, and there was plenty of that going on here!

For starters, this sweet little Witchy Beastie never leaves home without a big cup of freshly-squeezed green juice – what a great way to get the day off on the right foot (or paw)!

I even dunked a stick of celery in there as a garnish! Witchy Beastie’s human counterpart is apparently a big fan of morning juice raves, so this should help lay the foundations of a good strong friendship!

This lady also has a favourite hooded cape in rich bright purple… so of course, Beastie does too.

The original plan for this cape was to make it out of felt, but it was waaaaaaay too bulky on a small Beastie frame! So I switched to a lighter, woven fabric from my stash, and cut the pattern pieces on the bias for a little bit of extra swishiness. On the front, I fitted a gold chain and clasp so that the cape could sit open without slipping off her little woolly shoulders.

Oooh, we should probably talk about her hairstyle next! We went for a swept-over look in light blonde (erk, is it obvious to anybody that I don’t speak hairdressing?) with a cool baby-blue streak in the front…

… And a tightly-cropped section on her left hand side. You would not believe how lovely and soft that short Beastie hair is!

Then her look was completed with a pair of chunky-framed cat’s eye glasses…

… And special witchy “shoes” with curly toes!

Finally, I added one last essential piece of kit – after all, every self-respecting Witchy Beastie needs her own broom!

This one has thick, bushy needle-felted bristles, and tucks neatly under the arm of Witchy Beastie’s purple robe when she’s not using it!

Well, hopefully that’s brought a little bit of magical monster sparkle to an otherwise wintry Tuesday lunchtime! And we’ll be back next week with photos from my latest road trip with Explorer Beastie, so be sure to drop in then… Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Tajana! I have to say though, learning to do needle felting has been one of my favourite new skills… Yes, it’s a bit slow, but it’s so handy for doing miniature things! I’m also totally in awe of your latest human-sized crafting projects! 😀

      1. Indeed, I have seen some beautiful items made with needle felting here around but I have never tried to do anything. You should be a real crafter for it , I just copy patterns.

        1. Surely you’re not saying YOU’RE not a real crafter?! Honestly, you’d be surprised how easy needle felting is (I was intimidated too before I gave it a go) and it’s so good for stress relief! 😀

  1. I love her!!! I love seeing all the different crafts/skills that you use to make the beasties, too! I think you should write a book or 10 about all the beasties!

    1. Thanks, Mandy! And yes, Beasties have been the perfect outlet for letting me use ALL my favourite crafty techniques at once! 😀 Funny you should mention books though… My brother was flicking through my old sketchbooks the other day and said the same thing. I might have to take you up on that… 🤔

    1. Awww, thanks Jan! She was a fun, colourful character to make… And I really liked that star fabric too! It’s one I picked up on a whim a while back, and I’m glad I finally got a chance to use it 😀 Cheers for popping in!

  2. Woah woah woah! Where to even begin with this one, she is so cool!! The shoes: seriously?! Too cute. The hair: whaaaa??? Super stylin’! The glasses: omg! Perfection. The hooded cloak: must. purchase. human. version. immediately. The broom and the juice: obvious essentials in any Beastie closet, rendered with the utmost detail! (I also really like her stripey stockings and the wool-tone of her face.) You’ve definitely elevated boring ol’ freezing cold depressing Tuesday to new heights; thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. Yay, thanks Weekes! Happy to help 😁 And I reckon a human-sized purple hooded cloak (maybe with cat ears?) is exactly what your wardrobe has been missing… I kinda love the juice as well, I might send more Beasties out the door with one of those! Cheers for your comment! 😀

      1. Hahaha I think B would just go ahead and pull the trigger on the divorce papers at that point! I do love the juice as well, though I can’t help but think it could be improved by being poured out and replaced with some life-giving espresso…. 🙂

        1. Ha! Yes, I’ve been a bit suspicious of those green drinks for human consumption since my mum started making juices with vegetables in them. VEGETABLES! 😱

        2. Liquid veggggg!!!!! I just find it impossible to wrap my head around anything being a viable replacement for 4 shots of espresso in morning. Perhaps that explains my tendency to regularly overindulge in exclamation marks. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        3. Aaah, a fellow caffeine addict! I’m sure I’d love to be able to start the day without a big ol’ mug of tar-like tea, but that’s just not going to happen! Gotta keep those exclamation marks flowing, after all!!!! 😂😂😂

  3. Okay, when are you publishing the Big Book of Beastie Hairstyles so I can take it in next time i’m brave enough to get my hair cut? Those shoes are terribly cute but I worry they might be a bit small for a Beastie’s less-than-svelte feet. I hope she’s not suffering for her witchy fashion. The cape is amazing. And I don’t think that’s juice in that cup…it’s definitely witch’s brew (I swear I see a frog leg in there). Another excellent job!!

    1. Hahaha, don’t worry about her toes! The curly bits are purely cosmetic. And a Big Book of Beastie Hairstyles, you say? Could be interesting… Although Beasties do tend to have rather (very) square faces, so what works for them might not fit so well over a human visage. I can’t be held responsible for bad hair days, y’know! 😂 Thanks for stopping by, Tammie! 😀

        1. No way! Beasties never suffer for their fashion… Although they’re not above making me work hard so they can look good! 😂

        2. Yeah, I can’t tell you how hard I had to work to get some of those flowers to sit just right on Finn’s head during his last photo shoot! 😂😂😂

    1. Awww, thank you Laura! Although I think I’m lucky that I get lots of interesting people approaching me with ideas… That helps! 😀

    1. Thanks, Tricia! I’m a big fan of stripey tights myself, but I think the Beasties wear them better! 😀 Cheers for your comment!

  4. Witchy Beastie is pure magic! Everything from the starry dress to the striped stockings to the cute shoes and cape. What a cute undercut, too (I squealed when I saw it – I have always thought of getting one, and WB is seriously egging me on). I can already see her whizzing across the (still wintry) sky, green drink in paw, her purple cape flying. She sets my imagination free! I enjoy how all of your different felting/knitting/sewing talents come together here!

    1. Thanks, Shirley! I know that I’m DEFINITELY not brave enough to have an undercut, so once again I’m letting the Beasties take the lead in the trendy haircut stakes! 😂 I love the idea of her scooting around the sky on her broomstick though… I must keep an eye out for her as the evenings start to get brighter! Thanks for dropping by!

      1. Yes, I hear you! My undercut-bravery is kind of non-existent. It’s a bold statement cut, and I’m uber-ok with sitting along the trendy hair sidelines for now, lol. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy Witchy Beastie’s do!

        1. Hahaha! I’ll keep the on-trend Beastie hairdos coming then… At this rate, I might be halfway towards qualifying as a human hairstylist! 🤔

    1. Why thank you, Simon! Plenty of accessories to put together on this one, but I’m happy with how she turned out! 😀

    1. Thanks Mrs P! I’ve just spent and enjoyable few minutes catching up on your latest creations… You HAVE been busy!
