It’s time for another browse through the BeastieBlog archives… and since we’ve been talking a lot about treats already this week, it only seemed fair to have another treat-y Beastie to see us into the weekend! Hands up who remembers…
…Baker Girl Beastie!
I made this Beastie at the start of 2015, and she was one of my first “real” commissions. It was exciting to be making a monster for someone who I didn’t previously know… and a little nerve-racking, too!
Fortunately, the lady who requested this little monster girl had a good idea of what she wanted. First up – red hair, to match her own…
… And a cute little printed cotton dress, protected by a hand-embroidered apron!
But the most important accessory was her big pink cupcake!
In fact, I recently revisited this idea, and made some larger stand-alone felt cupcakes!
They’re really fun to make, and right now I’ll take any opportunity to flex my newfound felting muscles!
One thing I noticed while putting this post together was how much my Beastie photography has improved in the past year and a half, even if I do say so myself! It just goes to show that practice makes… um… maybe not perfect, but definitely better!
It’s been a while since I heard from Baker Girl Beastie… hopefully either she or her human will see this and drop us a line! Then again, perhaps she’s training hard for the next season of “The Great British Bake Off”! Are any of you planning to spend some time in the kitchen this weekend? Let us know in the comments!
I’m just going to make a nice dinner tonight, but there’s no bakery included… well, not so bad since I’m going to cook two sea basses but before them we will have peppered mussels… and some good white wine of course…. I’ll bake some cakes next week…. Would you like to come and have some? π
Yum, yes please! I saw your plum jam on Instagram the other day too… It looked delicious! I’ll be looking out for tales of your baking adventures next week, and I hope your enjoyed your special dinner π
Too adorable…and delectable! But I’m still waiting for the Julia child Beastie, complete with roasted chicken (and all the livers she has saved).
Why is it that I’m picturing those livers hanging off a belt or necklace? I’m sure Human Julia would never have done that… Then again, Beastie Julia is a monster! π Julia Child Beastie is still churning around in my brain juice, as I try to figure out how to render her hairdo accurately in wool… Cheers for the reminder π
Julia Child Beastie? OMG, that would be hilarious! Her cooking shows are still (or again?) running here on tv. Just recently she had the young Martha Steward in her kitchen …
… and those cupcakes look delicious!
Why thank you! I actually had no idea that Julia Child was so well-known… The first time I heard of her was when the book “Julie and Julia” came out, and then they made a movie of it a couple of years afterwards. I’ll have to track down some of her cooking shows online… As “research”, of course!
I didn’t know her before I came to the States. But there’s a TV channel here called ‘CREATE’ and among other things (like knitting shows) they have her old cooking show running. π It must be from the 80s maybe? She and her co-chefs wear some
interesting outfits. π
That channel sounds like my kinda party! It’s lucky we don’t have that over here or I’d never leave the house! π
Yeah, those cooking shows are the worst. First they make you go and shop for ingredients, then mess up the kitchen and then to eat and eat and eat. π
*sigh* I know! Terrible! π
I’m sure she’ll be in the tent for the GBBO next year …along with Moo LOL
Maybe the two of them could team up… Then they’d be unstoppable! And with K9 on dish duty, they’d surely walk away with the trophy and a book deal afterwards π
I’ll get in touch with Chanel 4 pronto LOL
Perfect! And since I can’t see any good reason why they wouldn’t go for it, I reckon we can both retire! π
Put Baker Girl forward as the new judge now they need a replacement, Moo & K9 would make superb co hosts LOL
Definitely! I would absolutely watch this show! π
Baker Beastie looks even more delicious and gorgeous than her cupcake.
Awww, thank you! It was nice to revisit her π
Baker Beastie Baker Beastie Bake me a Cake…!
Too cute for words, although the doughnut one had me at hello.
Hahaha! I’m sure Baker Girl Beastie would be delighted to know that she’s now got her own theme song! You can take some of the credit for Doughnut Beastie, actually… I had the idea after reading your London foodie post a couple of months back!
Delighted to have been the inspiration for Doughnut Beastie.
Yay! Thanks again! π
Look at the size of that cupcake, if we scaled that up, cupcake for all. I do love your beasties, I must take my wee beastie out again.
Heehee, I suppose so! Beasties don’t really do moderation, though.π Thanks for your lovely comment, and do take some photos if Mini Beastie heads out for an autumn adventure!
This is very cute. My weekend cooking extended to boiling water and making toast on a camping stove which was a bit of a change from the usual.
Oh, fun! I used to go camping loads as a teenager, and I’ve eaten my fair share of camping stove and campfire cuisine! I hope you got a good weekend for it… Thanks for stopping by π
It didn’t rain much until packing away time so we counted ourselves lucky!
Always a bonus… Especially in Britain π
