Scary Monsters (And Super Beasts)

Loyal Beastie spotters will already have seen this picture on our Instagram yesterday, but in case you missed it here’s a clue to the identity of the new Beastie you’ll be meeting today…

And here’s how he turned out – meet David Bowie Beastie!
David Bowie Beastie, by CrawCrafts BeastiesOr should that be Beastie Stardust? Either way, I had fun playing makeup artist to a real life monster rock star! The famous “stripe” is mainly felt appliqué, but with the finest lines embroidered in black cotton…

David Bowie Beastie's Hair - CrawCrafts BeastiesSince this Beastie is going to live with a human mum and her recently-arrived little one, we decided to keep his accessories to a minimum – just in case he ends up babysitting! Even so, I thought I could add a touch of glam rock style to his jumpsuit by using a shiny cotton and viscose yarn, and popping on some over-the-top satin shoulder pads…
Glitzy Costume Details for Beastie Stardust - CrawCrafts BeastiesThanks to Tracy for requesting this very special Beastie as a gift for her friend! The idea had been stewing in my brain for a while, and it was great to finally have an excuse to make it a reality.

Here’s wishing you all a monster week, and don’t forget to share your favourite David Bowie song with us in the comments!

      1. I make little clay dr who figurines sometimes and I always find that it is the little details that make it both the most fun and most rewarding once a piece is finished.

        1. Oh I love him! What a perfect little Doctor Who Beastie! I have not actually put any of them up. I thought about it yesterday when I was telling you about them. I don’t know why I haven’t gotten them on here yet. I’ll have to do this soon!

  1. ASTONISHING !!!! there was no doubting who this this Beastie is paying homage to …as for my favourite Bowie song Mmmmmm I’m torn between the classics of Let’s Dance & Heroes due to the memories they represent, more to the point which is your fave Bowie tune ???

    1. Thank you! I’d actually be quite tempted to make another one, this time with platform boots and a guitar… he had such great style! Good song choices too, Mrs P – I don’t know if I could pick a favourite, but I have “Rebel Rebel” stuck in my head this morning 😀

        1. Oooh yes, they’d provide me with a deep vein of awesome hairstyles and outrageous outfits to mine! And I really want to make a Lemmy Beastie as well – plenty to work with there too, although his style was a little different!

    1. Oh, I would LOVE that! I reckon there are just under 200 of them out there, including Big Beasties and Minibeasties – maybe I should organise a reunion! Thanks for stopping by 😀

  2. Hi David! Welcome to the club! I’m Zahra! I often visit the Beastie Towers when Helen allows me to. hehe! You are very fashionable! 😀
Helen, you are truly talented! 🙂 I am a fan! 🙂

  3. I don’t know about favorite song, but the song that gets stuck in my head the most often and most stubbornly is Ch-ch-ch-changes. Love this Beastie…although the pic of his disembodied eyes was a bit disturbing :))

    1. Right, got it… no more pictures from the Beastie assembly line! Although I did think that the “monster meat sale” banner that I spotted last week and put on Instagram was waaaay more disturbing 😱 And “Changes” is certainly a catchy lil’ number, isn’t it? I think it’ll be lodged in my brain for the rest of the day now!

      1. The Monster Meat sign would have gone really well with the dismembered eyeball photo! 😄 And you’re welcome for the brain invasion…at least if the song is stuck in your head for a day that means I’ll be free of it for a bit, right?

        1. Uh-oh, sounds like my Instagram is fast becoming the Beastie Horror Channel 😆 And that is EXACTLY how song-stuck-in-the-head works… unfortunately it was unable to survive the repetitious playlist in Other Work yesterday, so you’ve probably got it back!

        2. Not yet. Lately I’ve had The Smiths stuck in my head. One particular song. I could post the lyrics and pass it on to you, but I’m not that evil.

  4. Beastie Stardust! I love love love this! It’s so perfect! As for my favorite Bowie song it’s probably the acoustic version of dead man walking, although Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold the World and Life on Mars probably tie for 2nd place. He’s so adorable. Nice work. 🙂

    1. Awww, thank you! I’ll have to hunt down that favourite song of yours, I don’t believe I’ve heard it. I really like “The Man Who Sold the World” too! Thanks for stopping by 😀

      1. Oh you should! It’s quite good! You can find it on YouTube, the acoustic version is very different from the dance version, although both are good. I’m a softie for all things acoustic. 🙂

        1. Yay! I like guitars-and screaming too! Although, I find I kind of like a little of everything. Mostly it depends on my mood. Some days it’s acoustics and instrumental music (particularly violin and cello) so…there’s kind of a range. 🙂
