Isn’t this year flying in already? I can’t believe it’s been nearly two months since I was putting the finishing touches on the new Beasties I’ll be introducing to you today!
So before another month zips by, let’s catch up with the last Beasties of 2016 – a happy little monster family!
These Beastie parents are justifiably proud of their sweet new arrival, who I made sure to wrap up in a toasty merino wool blanket, to keep those December chills at bay!
And just look at Mama Beastie… She’s so stylish in her checked shirt and satin bomber jacket!
Of course, Beastie Dad is no slouch in the style stakes either! He’s a bit of a Manchester United fan (or maybe that’s Monschester United?) so he pretty much lives in his favourite football shirt…
… Although since it was the middle of winter when he left Beastie Towers, it would have been irresponsible of me to let him out without a jacket. So I made him a classic felt parka, complete with a fur-lined hood!
This look might have been a little inspired by his favourite band… So I kitted him out with a copy of Oasis’s breakthrough album “Definitely Maybe” to keep him and his new family entertained. If you look closely, you’ll see that this is a super-rare Beastie-fied special edition!
The album cover is as close a replica of the real thing as I could recreate in felt and teeny embroidery. Yikes! Remind me to start this kind of work in the summer, and not leave it until the very darkest days of December like I did last year!
OK Beasties, I think that’s everything you need. Time to head off and meet your new family!
The best bit is that they arrived just as their human counterparts dashed to the hospital to welcome their own little person into the world – what are the chances? I couldn’t have planned that better if I’d tried!
Phew! Now that we’re almost up to date with new Beasties, next week I’ll be sharing some of the latest news from Beastie Towers… including my new photography toy and why it’s nice to be incommunicado every once in a while. See you then!
Eek! Maybe the monsters scared the mini-human out of Mom…you may want to add a warning label “May induce labor.” These are incredible, Helen! I would have been spitting nails on the tiny clothes, and probably would have gone fully mad working on that album cover. Great job!!!!
Oh wow, thank you! I’d like to think that maybe it was delighted laughter that sped up the baby’s arrival – my mum claims that her laughing uproariously at a film was what finally brought me into the world, more than a week late… Talk about seeing a precedent! And yes, stitching teeny clothes and album covers in the dead of winter did get a bit testing at times, but what else would I be doing? Pushing my way through crowded shops and hearing “Santa Baby” for the 81st time – ehhh, no thanks!
You could have been eating sweet and fatty food while drinking too much like a proper winter denizen. Although too much drink and you might end up with mutant monsters! So what you’re saying is that if moms-to-be want their baby on a certain date, they should rent a stack of comedies? Sounds better than a c-section.
Yes indeedy! I am of course perfectly qualified to advise on this matter, being childless and having no medical background besides a GCSE in biology. But wait a second, eating sweet and fatty foods? Drinking too much?! You’re right, I SHOULD make more of an effort to celebrate Christmas… Starting today! π
Every day is Christmas if you make an effort. π·π·π·
OMG, Helen you are a true artist!!! I admire you creativity and your skillfulness, really I am in awe!!! β€
Thanks Ivonne! There were moments when I wondered WHY I offered to do the album cover, but I’m glad I did now! Cheers! π
Did you sent a photo to Oasis? I’m sure they would love it.
Hmmm, I didn’t think of that! π€ Iiiiinteresting…
Wowzer! I cannot believe your incredible skills of teeny-tiny stitching on that album. I am also in awe of your dexterity and eyesight. Wow! I cannot decide if my favourite thing about this beastie set is the baby monster or the parka. I think it might be the parka. That makes me smile so much. You are ah-may-zing!
Oh woweeeee, thanks Laura! I’m determined to enjoy the dexterity and eyesight while I can… I know they can’t last forever π I’m also quite fond of the parka – I’m actually thinking of making Parka Beasties part of my market stall lineup now π€
I like that plan.
Oh my gosh, the detail on that little album is amazing! Love your work so much; I always look forward to seeing the newest Beasties!
Thanks Rachel… I always look forward to sharing new Beasties with everybody on the blog! Cheers for stopping by π
Love the album, the couple and baby look great
Thank you! It was a real rush to the finish on this one, but I got there! π
Wow! These are great, but the album is amazing!!
Thanks Ann! I’m sure there was an easier one I could have picked, but I just couldn’t resist the punning opportunities of “Definitely Maybe”!
Lovely Beastie family, Helen! I’ll never look at that Oasis album in the same way – your embroidering on it is virtuosic! What an amazing fur-lined parka, too. π They are definitely styling! π
Thanks Shirley! After all the attention that little album has got, I’d almost consider doing another one… Almost π Cheers for stopping by!
I love your latest family of Beasties your work is awesome, the attention to detail is phenomenal
Thanks Mrs P! I’ll have to drop around to the Cottage and see what you’ve been up to lately!
Oh Baby Beastie!!! And the album cover is amazing!
Thanks Rosina! More new Beasties coming soon… Although it might be a while before I stitch another album cover! π΅
That is so stinkin cute I can hardly stand it. I love your attention to detail–including the wee blanket. Oh, and they look like just the perfect young beastly parents, too!
Cheers Melissa! I’m still amazed that I got this one finished in time – talk about a race to the finish! And the parents’ human counterparts looked so cool in the reference photo I was sent… I hope I captured their essence π
PS I’ve been loving your last couple of podcasts – I just caught up with your most recent one yesterday. Your new sweater looks great!
A baby Beastie!!! So adorable! Lol. The album cover here is just amazing, the details are perfect! Your work is so very good. I also love the little parka. These are so great!
Oh wow, thank you! I got a few requests for Beastie families last year, it was a bit of a baby boom! I’m pretty fond of that parka as well, so you might see more Parka Beasties appearing soon π
Ha ha. Looking forward to them! With all the snow we’ve had (it’s finally gone, yay!) they seem a bit like Canadian Beasties. π
Jeez, at last! Winter seemed to hold on a little longer than usual this year… Even here it was still cold up until a couple of days ago. Parka Beasties all round! π
