Hooray! It’s finally Friday! So I thought we’d get the weekend off to a great (and slightly earlier than usual) start by visiting another Beastie abroad. This time, we’re skipping across the pond to Portland, Oregon, where a book-loving Beastie has made a new home for himself with writer and artist Tammie Painter – talk about a match made in heaven! He arrived just in time to join her for her birthday celebrations… Let’s see what they got up to! Oh, and I’d also recommend sticking around on Tammie’s blog to check out her incredibly finely-detailed artwork, or stop into her Etsy shop for some Father’s Day themed gift ideas ๐
As promised many moons ago when I revamped my blog, although I no longer have a regular travel feature, I will occasionally share anyย travel adventures I do have. Last week was my birthday and to celebrate I decided Iโd take a tour of Portlandโs Japanese Garden.
While I do love gardens, there were a few ulterior motives behind this choice. First, it was free thanks to the Cultural Pass from my local library; second, it was only a short hop away from where I wanted to have a birthday pint; and third, I was hoping to get a few reference photos for future art projects.
Oh, and last but not least, I had a new friend who had recently moved to Portland from Ireland and wanted to see a few sites in his new home.
Meet Finn McSpool Beastie
Look at that face. how could anyone resist him? Finnโฆ

Did you have to do this? Now Finn is strutting around the house saying, “I’m famous! I’m famous!” And every time I get out the camera he starts covering his face and accusing me of being one of the paparazzi. Still, it’s great to be part of the Beastie Family!! Hopefully Finn will come back down to earth soon and we can be seen in public again.
Oooops, sorry about that! If it helps, Explorer Beastie gets the same way sometimes, but he soon snaps out of it. Beastie memories are short, since their heads are literally filled with stuffing. Normal service should resume shortly! And thanks for being part of the Beastie Family! We’re happy to have you here ๐
Good to know. I was concerned when I saw he’d put on sunglasses and started saying, “I just want to be left alone”? Hopefully that’s just the final stage before he’s over his little diva thing.
Sounds like he’s over the worst of it. But he’s not out of the woods yet! Beware of any signs that he’s considering signing up for a reality TV show, publishing his memoirs or recording a concept album.
Ugh, that would be horrible! I was worried when he started dating a supermodel, but seems she’s moved on to someone who can put down his book once in a while ๐
Yes, he really needs a partner who shares his literary interests… and who isn’t 6 feet taller than him!
It was embarrassing when his date picked him up…literally picked him up.
Ha! ๐
As you rightly said a match made in heaven, just wondering do ALL your Beasties love a beer LOL
Hahaha! I think they just play up to the Irish stereotype when they’re out in public ๐ Although now you mention it, I have made quite a few beer-drinking Beasties… ๐
The campaign for Real Ale ought to adopt a Beastie as a mascot ๐
Ooooh! They definitely should… perhaps I could even request payment in beer ๐ Real ale is real currency here in Beastie Towers!
You do make me laugh ๐
Your on my side of the world!
Oh, I wish I was! I really should have accompanied Finn on his journey, I’d love to visit the West Coast again. At least the Beasties allow me to travel the world without leaving the comfort of my craft table! ๐
You need to install video cameras in your Beasties so you can follow all their journies.
Hahaha! I actually would like to see the look on people’s faces as they open their parcels and meet their Beastie for the first time!
That’s awesome.
