Hello everybody! Welcome to a whole new week… And also, allow me to present a whole new Beastie!
Many recent Beastifications have coincided with a human birthday, and this project was no exception! A while back, Jan from The Snail of Happiness got in touch with me to request a monster companion for her partner Jon, who had a birthday coming up. Since she’s been following the adventures of the Beasties almost from day one, I was super-happy to oblige!
So, Human Jon loves a bit of purple… That made it easy to sort out his outfit! I also made sure that his monster mini-me had the same hairstyle…
… And glasses!
Partially frameless glasses were a new departure for me, but the lenses surprised me by adapting well to their new-found freedom!
And I made sure to prepare this Beastie fellow for the cooler days ahead. His hat happens to be modelled on one made for Human Jon by Jan!
I’ve been really interested by Jan’s “ScrapHappy” posts on her blog, and a hat made of yarn scraps (inspired by her own Permaculture Hat) was one of the accessories I suggested in the initial design sketch I did for her. For the colour blocks in this hat, I knitted with offcuts of the same Irish yarn I use for my Barróg (Irish) Beasties, and you can juuuuust about see the ear holes I included into the design for added Beastie comfort.
And what else has he got there?
Aha! A notebook and pen, essential kit for any author. It looks like Jon Beastie will be attempting to follow in the footsteps of his human counterpart, by using a Beastie-sized version of his favourite notebook! The Beastified version is made from felt, with a teeny hand-embroidered cover. And so he can carry it safely…
… I made him a Beastie-sized rucksack!
But there’s more! Because when you hear that someone is also keen on working with electronics, AND owns a flying V guitar, you kinda have to add those aspects into the Beastification too.
Ta-daaaaah! One Beastie-sized soldering iron, and a white flying V!
I hid a magnet inside the plug of the soldering iron, so that Jon Beastie can “plug in” to any magnet-friendly metals in the workshop.
Then the guitar is made of felt, with appliquéd and embroidered details. Perfect for extended solos! Hey Jon Beastie, do you know “Happy Birthday”?
And it appears that his virtuoso playing has caught someone’s attention… I wonder who this is?
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until next week to find out… This was too big a Beastification to fit into one post! So we’ll see you next Tuesday for part two… In the meantime, why not check out what Jon Beastie’s human counterpart has been up to this summer?
